The Standard Traffic Ordinance as adopted is hereby modified by adding thereto the following:
The governing body may, by resolution, establish and fix the location of such traffic control devices as may be deemed necessary to guide and warn traffic under the provisions of this chapter, other traffic ordinances and the state laws. The city shall place and maintain such traffic control signs, signals and device when and as may be required by the authority of the governing body to make effective the provisions of this chapter and other ordinances for the regulation of traffic. Any official traffic control device placed pursuant to this section shall be marked and labeled on a map of the City of Nortonville for the purpose of displaying all such traffic control devices and shall be filed with the city clerk to be open to inspection and available to the public at all reasonable hours of business.

On Main Street between Taggart Street and Railroad Street and on Railroad Street between Main Street and Locust Street:
(a) No left turn parking is allowed between intersections except to turn into alley, private road, or driveway.
(b) No cross traffic backing is allowed.
(c) No U-turns are allowed except at authorized (posted) intersections.

Any person who operates, accelerates or halts any vehicle upon public highway, street or alley within the city in a manner not reasonably necessary for the ordinary use or normal operation thereof, or in such manner as to indicate a careless or heedless disregard for the rights or the safety of others, or in such a manner as to endanger any person or property is guilty of careless driving.

There shall be no tractor trailers (with or without trailers), semi-trucks, 18 wheelers or similar vehicles allowed to be in or use the alley section between Taggart street and Norton street from Main street to Locust street within the City of Nortonville, Kansas. A violation of this section may be punished by a fine not to exceed $200.00 plus court costs and any restitution, if so ordered.

This section shall apply to the operations of certain low speed vehicles as named in (a) herein, and as defined by the Standard Traffic Ordinance for Kansas Cities and amendments thereto as adopted by the City of Nortonville, Kansas.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a Low Speed Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Pocket Rocket, Go-Cart, Mini-Bike, Work Site Utility Vehicles, or Micro Utility Truck on any public highway or street within the corporate city limits of the City of Nortonville, Kansas.
(b) The provisions of (a), shall not prohibit a Low Speed Vehicle, All Terrain Vehicle, Pocket Rocket, Go-Cart, Mini-Bike, Work Site Utility Vehicles or Micro Utility Truck from crossing a federal or State highway.
(c) This section shall not apply to Law Enforcement or Fire Department personnel when being used in the performance of their duties.
(d) Violation of this section shall be a traffic infraction and may be punished by a fine of not less than $30.00 nor more than $500.00 plus court costs.

(a) Overweight vehicles for the purpose of this section shall be defined as trucks, trailers and other conveyances, whether loaded or unloaded, with a registered gross weight in excess of seven tons.
(b) Designation of Routes. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any overweight vehicle over any street or alley within the City, except:
(1) County Line Road from the East City Limits to the West City Limits
(2) Osage Street from the North City Limits to the South city Limits
(3) East Walnut Street from the East City Limits to Osage Street
(4) Railroad Street from County Line Road to Locust Street
(5) Two hundred forty feet (240’) of Locust Street from Railroad Street in a north westerly direction
(6) The alleyway in the 200 block of Railroad Street
(7) Two hundred forty feet (240’) of Main Street from Railroad Street in a north westerly direction.
(c) Destination Access.
(1) All such overweight vehicles shall be required to follow the truck routes but may leave the truck route at the point on the truck route nearest its destination in the city for the delivery or pickup of materials, goods and merchandise at a destination not on the marked truck route and the same shall return to the marked truck route by the most direct route.
(2) Locally residing owners or operators of overweight vehicles may leave the truck route at the point on the truck route nearest their residence or home base to park their truck or semi-tractor without trailer at that location, providing that all parking of such vehicle shall be on private property and not on public streets or alley ways.
(d) Exclusions. School buses as well as utility service vehicles and solid waste haulers providing service to customers within the corporate city limits may exceed a registered gross weight of seven tons.
(e) Penalty. Violation of any provision in this section shall constitute a traffic infraction. Persons found guilty shall be subject to pay a fine which shall be fixed by the court, not exceeding $500.00.

(a) When signs are in place giving notice thereof, parking shall be prohibited as follows:
(1) No overnight parking on Main Street between Railroad and Taggart.
(2) No residential parking on Main Street between Railroad and Taggart
(b) Persons found guilty shall pay a fine of $25.00. Each day a person fails to comply with the order shall constitute a separate offense.
(c) The police department, street department or fire department are hereby given authority to move or cause to be moved any vehicle, sign or obstruction which may violate this section.
